Why Is The FUSO Canter Range So Popular?

Well, there’s no short answer to this, but there are some significant things about FUSO’s Canter range that make it so popular here at Daimler Trucks Murwillumbah. The Canter is a light duty commercial vehicle (3,500 kg to 8,550 kg GVM) meaning it has many uses so it’s target market is very large, but it’s only going to sell well if it’s any good, right? Let’s take a look at why this is such a popular truck in Australia.

Who Makes the FUSO Canter?

The Canter is manufactured by Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation, part of Daimler Trucks (a subsidiary of Daimler AG). The Canter has been manufactured since 1963, now in its eighth generation. Fuso obviously have a great reputation and immense history, and Canter’s were very soon exported into Australia and New Zealand as well as the near east, to establish themselves in different environments and to different drivers and businesses.

Large Range of Build Options

Part of its seemingly ever-lasting appeal is the range of build options. The Canter is available as a cab-chassis for those custom applications or in-built ready spec which depending on your use will be a crucial part of your trucks ability to make money.

Here’s a breakdown of the Canters main applications:

  • Alloy Tray
  • Tipper
  • Crew Cab
  • Pantech

This is before you get to sizes and custom-built models. Whilst a lot of other manufacturers also offer a large range, Fuso have been giving these options a lot longer and have been able to build a range of trucks year after year that can adapt to all these build types without losing its integrity.

Reliability

Most modern trucks are pretty reliable, but there are certainly some that are more reliable than others. This is why Fuso offer such great standard manufacturers warranties, because they are confident of their own technology and manufacturing expertise. Fuso is the first and only Japanese truck manufacturer to offer up to 5 years cab-chassis warranty as standard.

STANDARD MANUFACTURER’S WARRANTY
5 YEARS or 200,000 KILOMETRES, whichever comes first.

Fuel Economy

Let’s face it, Fuso know how to build engines, and this being the beating heart of your truck has a massive impact not only its driving performance, but fuel economy and reliability – all critical things when it comes to purchasing for a business. Buying a truck doesn’t always just come down to price, most drivers would agree on that.

Compared to the equivalent ISUZU, Fuso is 7% more economical with Diesel on average. Their current EEV rated engines surpass Euro – 5 emissions standards with the piezo fuel injection system contributing to its overall fuel economy.
